Here are a few signs that Spring might not be as far away as it seems ….
The spiders are back. Inside. Where they don’t belong. As long as they hang out in the top half of the room, no where near me, I’m fine with allowing them their space. But when they get close enough to touch me, and in the case of the one in my bathroom sink the other night, close enough to kick me as I’m using the bathroom, that’s too close and I start to freak out a bit. I turned on the tap and washed this one down the drain. But then he CAME BACK! That’s not allowed – didn’t he get the memo – all spiders who are drowned remain drowned??!! He managed to pull himself out of the drain and curl up on the top of the sink to dry out. While I admired his strength and spirit, I still squished him in toilet paper and flushed him down the toilet. Let’s see you come back from that, bud! Tonight, when I get up in the middle of the night, there will be one hairy arm sticking up through the toilet cause I had to go and challenge him, right?
The daffodils are just aching to bloom. You can see here that the bud is just about to pop – we just need a little more sun and a little more warmth. Maybe by the time I get home tonight, it will be done. Then I’ll be able to bring a daffodil into my office cause nothing brightens and freshens a room like fresh flowers. We can’t have any in our house cause Gretel (the grey) eats any and all blooms. She will climb mountains to get to flowers. ***Updated 3-12-08 — still not blooming – little bit more yellow showing – need to get above the 40s, temperature wise, I think. I’m just so excited that they are starting to bloom:)

Ack! Spiders! Again I say…ACK!>>But pretty flowers, yes. Except tulips. Tulips make me shudder.>>And robins!! I don’t know if there are robins in Germany. Now I kind of feel like an idiot.>>*sigh*

Is that what Robins mean? And all the roadkill? Good to know. >I had a haggard looking squirrel mooning me from my fence this morning, took all I had not to give him a Snickers bar he looked so miserable.

So, I read this post and thought “yeah, comment here” then I read the next (same answer) and the next… etc… I love your writing style, from “hairy arm in the toilet” to “everybunny run!”– great post(s)!! And my indoor spiders never went away, what’s up with that?

Dragonfly – I so agree with you about spiders. I think it has to do with the number of legs waving at me!>>Moosh – Robins are always the first of the songbirds to show in our area after winter so we consider them our spring warning:) Also, we grew up reading a book called The First Robin about a bird named Richard who was so excited about flying north for spring that he got there too early and caught a cold. A friendly mole, I think it was a mole, took care of him and got him back on his feet in time for the first day of spring.>>PM – During the winter, our indoor insects usually leave – whether they go south for the cold weather or wither away and die – don’t care, just glad to have them go. When they start to reappear, we know the warm weather is coming. I used spiders because they were the first to show.>>Hostage – Thank you so much for your comment. I have to say I spent quite an enjoyable bit of time at work yesterday (when I should have been working, shhhh…) catching up on some of your back blogs.
