HEADS OR TAILS – Rhymes with TIP

This week’s Heads or Tails challenge is to write about Tip or anything that rhymes with Tip. I’ve chosen to write about skip – it may not seem apparent at first, but please bear with me.

First a little background …

For those of you who follow baseball, you know that one of the biggest rivalries is between the NY Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Believe me, within the two fan bases, the hatred and scorn runs deep. Some of the first games to sell out at Yankee Stadium are the ones when the dreaded Red Sox come to town.

Saturday afternoon baseball games around here are the property of the FOX channel on TV. Unless you have the special packages through Direct TV or Cable, they are the only ones that show the games during the day on Saturdays. And if your team is the one they choose to showcase on a particular weekend, that channel is the only one you can see the game on. For instance, the Mets have their own channel (yes, we are that special!) but if the Mets game is the Fox game of the week, the Mets channel is showing something other than baseball.

This past Saturday, the Fox game was the Yankee/Red Sox game at Fenway Park, in Boston. All the Yankee/Red Sox fans up and down the East Coast were happily watching the game. They even made it through a two hour rain delay. At the top of the 9th inning, the Red Sox were leading the Yankees 4 to 3. There were two men out and Robinson Cano was up at bat with two strikes. The Red Sox were one strike away from winning the game from the hated Yankees. Two men out, two strikes on the batter and the Fox channels switched to NASCAR. I’m not sure, but I think several families may have had to replace their TV’s that day because of items being thrown through the screens.

Because really, who wouldn’t want to skip the rest of the game to watch auto racing?

To see other great entries for this week’s Head or Tails, including Helen’s, head on over here.

Switch that to football and a last-chance field goal or something like that, and certainly my dad would have broken the tv. No doubt. 🙂

You seem to feel about baseball the way I feel about tennis … and I feel your pain! I seldom watch anything ‘real time’ and am always frustrated when they ‘switch channels’ on me to finish the match elsewhere because I always ‘miss’ the opportunity to change along with them, but to have the switch occur ‘real time’ w/o recourse seems exceedingly frustrating. Thanks for visiting my HoT earlier today and leaving the link back here so I’d find yours. Hope you’re having a wonderful week.Hugs and blessings,

It sucks when stations switch programming like that. Oh, I heard that a Red Sox jersey was dug out of the new stadium the Yankees are building. Talk about rivalry huh?
