Nationals Trip

Thursday we traveled south to Falls Church, VA to see brother #5 and who was helping to open a new restaurant.

The three owners bought this place when it was a dump. They redid the entire inside – exposed beams on the ceiling, brick fronted fireplace, hardwood floors in the dining area and tile in the bar area. Brother #5 is the general manager and hopes to be able to buy into their next restaurant. This is the third they’ve opened in the past 5 years – obviously they know what they’re doing.

The guys will be serving “slightly southern fare”, including an appetizer called “Potatoskinadillas” that are quesadillas that have mashed potatoes and cheese and bacon bits between two flour tortillas. Those were divine! All the food was delicious but those stood out because I’ve never heard of putting mashed potatoes in quesadillas. Yummy!

I didn’t get any pictures inside as they were serving already and I didn’t want to disturb the diners. But take my word for it, if you’re in Falls Church and you want a fun, relaxed dining experience, head on over too the Dogwood Tavern.

Then we went to a game at the new Washington Nationals Stadium.

My company in Maryland built the inside of the stadium. Unfortunately, we were late (and we got lost in an area of DC I’ll be happy if I never see again) so we got to the stadium after the game started. We didn’t get to walk around, but brother #5 got us some amazing seats (7 rows behind first base)

and the game was really good until the 6th inning when the National started beating the crap out of the Mets.

However, it was really nice to see the Nationals Fans get into the game as they pulled further and further away from the Mets. The stadium is nice and small.

This is Screech, the National’s mascot.

He didn’t come out as much as I would have liked – basically just to referee the President’s race between innings.

We’re definitely coming back here again.
