Book Meme

I’m stealing this meme from Seeking Sanity because I was looking for ideas for a post and there it was, and besides, it has to do with books, so how can I pass it up?

This is the book meme –

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.

I am in the middle of The Virgin’s Lover by Philippa Gregory – all about Queen Elizabeth I.

“A Dairy House at Kew,” he said.
“A London house for us?” she asked.
He could imagine Elizabeth’s response if he tried to install a wife in the pretty little bachelor’s nest in the garden of the royal palace.

The he is Lord Robert Dudley, Queen Elizabeth’s childhood friend and current lover. The she is his wife -not Queen Elizabeth:), who is desperate to be with him … almost as desperate as he is to be away from her (his wife). The Tudors were a randy lot – in and out of bed with just about everyone, regardless of spouses (theirs or their paramour’s), or the wishes of their subjects, who by this time, really wished the rulers would just get married, stay married, and pick a faith! “Now we’re Catholic (Henry VIII), now we’re Protestant (Henry again, because he wants to get divorced), now we’re Catholic again (Mary), and now back to Protestant!” It must have been one of the most confusing and dangerous times to be living in England!

And, in a perfect sequeway – here are pictures of our Lord Dudley, taken last night as he began exploring the chair. He is 4 weeks old today. Not too shabby for one we weren’t sure was going to make it a month! Of course it’s hard not to stick around when you have two people adoring you 24 hours a day, let alone a whole other group on the weekends:)

This last picture is of Gretel, who is NOT one of his adoring fans. As a matter of fact, she is quite disinterested in the whole Dudley extravaganza.

I appologize for the size of the photos but Blogger is not cooperating for me to load them the normal way. ** Updated – got the pictures fixed.
