I don’t use a bright, cheerful voice. As a matter of fact, I mock mercilessly anyone who does. And don’t get me started on baby talk, because I may vomit.

At puppy school last week, we started learning the “come” command, whereby your puppy, wherever he/she may be, will drop everything and come running to you when you say “come” in a bright, cheerful voice. It was pointed out that my voice was not nearly bright or cheerful enough to get my pup’s attention. So my homework for the week was to practice bringing my voice to a higher pitch and to rid it of doom and gloom.

I can’t tell you how much it’s killing me that she might be right about this!
