So now I have to choose 4 spooky books to read between now and Halloween. First up is Dracula by Bram Stoker. It’s really amazing that I, as an English Major in college and a voracious reader, have never read Dracula, and there’s a perfectly logical explanation for that. I’m sure it’s going to scary the ever-loving life out of me. I know, I know – Buffy and Angel fan RIGHT HERE! But there’s something about the king of all vampires that just creeps me out. Maybe it’s the way he’s been portrayed in movies (and believe me, the only way I’ve seen those has been in previews and peeking through hands covering eyes), or maybe it’s the comic book I read as a child that had him climbing down the wall with the child in a sack. Whatever it is (the latter), I have avoided him like the plague. However, since I am now *cough* ty one, I’m hoping I can handle it. Besides, I have a plan. Dracula will be my at work reading book, to be read at lunch time when it is VERY sunny out, and I will have another, fluffier, book to read before falling asleep. And I may sleep with my light on. And wear my cross every night. Besides I have my great protectors to keep me safe *snort* (as the cats head for the hills.)

In college we read Dracula, but also Frankenstein and Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde. They are all GREAT!!! So here’s a suggestion to maybe read those last two as well!

Love the choices. I think that Kathy Reichs and Jeffrey Deaver might be scarier for you than Dracula… We will have to pass around the Stephanie Meyers. P, like any cat worth their salt, chose to lay on the bad ankle last night…

As far as the Twilight Saga goes…start at the beginning. They really don’t work out of order!I know you have your books chosen (or at least semi-chosen), but think about reading <>A Certain Slant of Light<> by Laura Whitcomb sometime. It’s not scary, but it’s about a girl who calls herself “Light”..she’s been dead for over 100 years, and she’s been “haunting” people ever since. One of my very favorites.Oh, and <>Tithe<> is excellent. I just finally read the whole trilogy (I’d read the first two, but I just got <>Ironside<>) and I just adore them. Dark and scary, but excellent.Okay, that’s a ramble…sorry…🙂

Thank you so much for joining in, I’m so thrilled to have you…even more thrilled to see that you’re reading Dracula. It is far and away one of my favorite books of all time. Deliciously creepy but also delicious in the language and atmosphere of the time the story was written. I hope you post your thoughts, I’d love to know what you think of it when you are done.
